Why You Shouldn't Follow Diet Trends

It seems like every day there is a new diet to follow, one that claims to help you "drop 10 pounds in 7 days" or is the "best" for a healthy lifestyle. There are ads all over the internet and otherwise, telling you to "try this diet!" "It will change your life."

And it just might. But that will be a temporary change.

Do not fall for these fads or diet trends.

I do believe in using a cleanse for a day or two (max) to kickstart any new diet plan or to just give your body a reset. But do not live on juice for days or weeks at a time. You will never get enough nutrients for your body to function optimally.

If you want a real diet change, see a nutritionist, one that has a university degree and has been a practicing dietitian for years. They can give you a diet tailored specifically for you after a health evaluation. It is the only real way to get guidance that is accurate and healthy. Especially if you have any restrictions, such as allergies or intolerance.

My father is a perfect example. He has followed many diet trends over the years, from the Low Fat craze, Low Carb, Atkins, South Beach, etc. He was unfortunately, recently diagnosed with diabetes, but it is low enough that he doesn't need insulin and if he changes his diet and exercises more, he can kick it. So at the recommendation of his doctor, he saw a dietitian. He is now following a diet plan that suits him and his heath needs. And the best thing about it, it's more about what you CAN eat versus what you CAN'T, like most diets. A lot of the time, you're told to limit or cut out entirely certain foods or ingredients or what-have-you. Instead of feeling punished, the dietitian gave him a mock meal plan and said he can alter it to what is available to him.

If you don't want a temporary fix, and want to change your life and be healthy, do it the right way. Speak to a personal trainer, see a nutritionist, or even your primary doctor to get started. Don't believe everything you read in advertisements and don't listen to what celebrities claim to be their diet miracle. We know they have personal chefs and trainers, so they are full of crap! Focus on what is good for you and your lifestyle and what will help you to be the healthiest and happiest version of yourself!
